Police confirm release of abducted ‘doctor’ in Ogbomoso

The owner of a private clinic abducted by some gunmen at Gbede community in the Surulere Local Government Area of Oyo State has been freed by his abductors.

Our correspondent gathered that the private clinic owner who is simply identified as Dr Rasheed was released on Monday night after a ransom of N3 million was paid.

Sources told our correspondent that the kidnappers had earlier demanded N30 million ransom but the family of the victim pleaded with the abductors to collect one-tenth of the amount.

The N3million, it was gathered, was raised after the victim instructed his family to sell his car and other belongings.

A resident of the area, who identified himself simply as Samuel told our correspondent that the  ‘doctor’ sold many things to raise money.

He said, “The man has been freed. He was freed on Monday night after his family had paid N3million ransom.

“His family members and relatives had to sell his car, and other belongings before they could raise the amount.

“It is unfortunate but they had to do that to secure his release. But we are living in fear now because of what is happening.”

The Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, confirmed the release of the victim to our correspondent on the telephone on Tuesday night.

It will be recalled that Christopher Bakare, a supervisor at the farm of a former Governor of the state, the late Adebayo Alao-Akala, who was abducted a few days ago, was released after a sum of N5 million was paid as ransom.
