The complete list of winners was unveiled during a live virtual event on Friday.

According to ID Africa, owners of Nigerian Entertainment Today (Netng), Neusroom, 234Star and Orin, this year’s edition features 35 categories, including 15 new voting categories.

NET Honours, one of the world’s most prestigious verified audience data-based awards, debuted in 2013 as a special recognition award presented to deserving individuals in the Nigerian entertainment industry during the Nigerian Entertainment Conference (NECLive). In 2016, it evolved into NET Honours People’s Choice Awards, recognising achievers in the entertainment industry through a thorough analysis of online audience search, consumer interest, social media interactions and search trends on Netng’s website, social media platforms and other related channels.

Data for the Class of 2022 are based on audience engagement from a database of over 10 million internet users reached across Netng’s website and social media channels between June 2021 and May 2022.

Femi Falodun, the CEO of ID Africa, said “NET Honours provides useful data on popular culture trends and the interests of urban youth in Africa. The platform is a valuable source of insights for brands, organisations and governments that are trying to understand young Africans and their digital media consumption habits.”

Davido was named Most Popular and Most Searched Male Musician while his fandom – 30 BG emerged the Most Popular (Music) Fandom with 38.1% of votes in a stiff competition with Wizkid FC that polled 32.8% of votes. Funke Akindele and Ebuka Obi-Uchendu emerged as the Most Popular Actress and Most Popular (Male) Media Personality respectively for the third year running, while Toke Makinwa also emerged as Most Popular (Female) Media Personality for the third consecutive year. In addition, Nicki Minaj clinched the award for Most Popular (Female) Foreign Celebrity while Korean actor Lee Min Ho emerged Most Popular (Male) Foreign Celebrity.

“Building on the success of NET Honours in the last six years, we believe it is also important to recognise the great works of other creatives who mostly work behind the scenes and rarely get the commendation they deserve. This is why we introduced 15 new voting categories that gave fans more power to choose their favourite celebrities for the awards,” says Michael Orodare, the Editorial Lead at ID Africa. “In seven days, we recorded more than 21,000 votes from fans who chose their favourites in the new categories.”

The sixth edition also produced the first child star to ever win NET Honours awards, Victor ‘Kiriku’ Enorense, the seven-year-old social media content creator voted as the ‘Breakout Social Content Creator of the Year’.

Kiriku, who polled 32.6% of the total votes to emerge the youngest NET Honours winner, was closely followed by Chukwuebuka ‘Brainjotter’ Emmanuel with 23.5%.

The fandom of BBNaija star, Liquorose, popularly known as ‘Liquolions’ emerged as the ‘Most Popular BBNaija Fandom ’with 58.9% of total votes in the category.
