Given that it has attracted the interest of numerous foreign musicians, amapiano is undoubtedly the most popular sound in South Africa, and it is commonly acknowledged that the advent of the genre deposed SA hip hop. During his podcast episode with Reason, JazzQ also acknowledged that SA hip hop is not dead but rappers are not putting effort into their craft.

Despite the claims that rappers are worried about Amapiano, there are also some who are not even moved about its dominance. AKA revealed that he doesn’t care about the never-ending debate on SA hip hop and Amapiano. He mentioned on Twitter that as long as the sound is pushing the South African culture he doesn’t really care.

All this Piano vs Hip Hop talk is dumb. I don’t care what genre it is … as long as it’s South African music punishing South African charts, who cares bro … The Supermega is also amongst SA rappers who vowed not never to jump into the Amapiano sound. The likes of Nasty C, Emtee and Lucasraps have also followed suit.
